Licence - boarding animals
The Animal Boarding Establishments Act 1963 requires that premises for boarding dogs and cats (kennels and catteries) must be licensed by the local authority. Officers visit each premises to check compliance with the legislation and licence conditions prior to the issuing of a licence.
The inspection of premises is routinely carried out by a veterinary surgeon appointed by the local authority. The cost of the inspection is paid by the applicant for the licence along with the licence fees. Current licence fees can be found on the council's website here [enter location of fees and charges] Licences will not generally be issued until any of the remedial works required by the vet have been dealt with to the satisfaction of the local authority.
