Bring Sites
Provision of civic amenity sites which may be used by local residents (usually free of charge) and businesses (usually charged). The sites provide facilities for collection of all recycleable materials. Smaller sites may provide facilities only for such items as glass, plastic, paper etc.
The council currently operate 28 ‘bring sites’ throughout the borough where paper, cans and glass can be deposited with additional seasonal facilities at local caravan parks. At three sites there is a facility for textiles which are collected for charity and one facility for plastic bottles. Select this link for more information on the sites.
The more valuable materials that can be recycled means they can be used again and again to make new products. Recycling saves using virgin materials and destroying non-renewable resources which benefits the environment. All councils have statutory recycling targets to meet and we must be recycling at least 18% of household waste at the end of March 2006.
How you can help
Save glass, paper, cans and textiles in separate boxes or bags and then when you head off for the weekly shop you can take it with you and drop them into the recycling banks before you load up again with the next lot of food and goods.
Use re-usable nappies instead of disposables – think of the mountain of used disposables at your local sewage works. http://www.realnappycampaign.com/
What happens when it is recycled?
