Household Waste - Collection

The local authority provides a regular (usually weekly) collection of household rubbish from all residential premises within the authority boundaries.

The refuse service is provided as a kerbside collection from wheeled bins. If there is no storage area for a wheeled bin, or where the only access to such a storage area is via the living quarters of the house refuse collection in sacks will be considered.

Where there is nobody living in the household who is physically able to wheel the bin to the collection point help can be given. To be considered for this service known as an “assisted lift” please complete the application form which is available on the website or from the Council Offices 01289 330044.

The bins are collected on a weekly basis except within the kerbside recycling areas (currently Berwick, Tweedmouth, Spittal, Scremerston and Norham) where the bins are collected on an alternating weekly basis. That is, blue recycling bin one week, black general waste the next.
