Flyposting
The local authority is responsible for the removal of illegally posted advertisements, leaflets etc. on both council and privately owned property in the area. Each council provides information on how to report instances of flyposting.
The Council aims to provide a pleasant environment for both residents and visitors and will remove, through our street cleansing contractors, fly posters throughout the Borough.
Flyposting is the unauthorised display of an advertisement. It can be unsightly and lead to other forms of anti-social behaviour. The Environmental Health Unit can serve notice on those displaying or causing a flyposter to be displayed to remove it within 48 hours. Failure to remove a flyposter can result in formal enforcement action resulting in a fine of up to £2,500. Fixed penalties of £75 can also be used on those committing the offence of displaying the advertisement.
The Environmental Health Unit are responsible for the removal of flyposting in the Borough of Berwick upon Tweed. We will make every effort to remove flyposting as soon as possible from sites we can treat. Flyposting on private property, such as empty shops, is the responsibility of the property owner. We will work with property owners to try and address these problems.
