Household Waste:

The local authority may provide dustbins, wheelie bins or bags for household waste. The type and size of bins available may vary according to local circumstances and to the nature of the property (e.g. the number of residents)
The refuse service is provided as a kerbside collection from wheeled bins. The bins are collected on a weekly basis except within the kerbside recycling areas (currently Berwick, Tweedmouth, Spittal, Scremerston and Norham) where the bins are collected on an alternating weekly basis. That is, blue recycling bin one week, black general waste the next.
Recycling and general waste bins are available in 140ltr and 240 ltr sizes.
For families with six or more permanent members a 360 ltr bin is available.
Black, general waste bins have to be purchased at a cost of £42.10 (£83.10 for 360 ltr). Recycling bins are currently free of charge.
An application form must be completed and payment received to obtain a wheeled bin. The application form can be downloaded from this site or a form can be obtained from Council Reception (01289 330044). Payment can be made over the phone by debit/credit card, by sending a cheque/postal order with application or by payment at the Council Offices.
For further information please refer to the domestic refuse FAQ available on this site or contact 01289 301734 or 01289 301821.
