| Services for council tenants affected by demolition
Alternative housing
Where the demolition of nearby property may pose a risk to tenants in Council property the authority may offer the tenant alternative housing either temporarily or on a permanent basis. This is called a “decant” (if temporary) or a “Management Transfer” (if permanent). This situation is very rare in the Berwick Borough.
Demolition is very rare in the Berwick borough, and when it does occur it is usually part of regeneration work to a wider area.
As and when groups of houses are acquired by a developer, arrangements may be made for their demolition. As part of this action the Council will support residents in a number of ways, including possible re-housing in social rented housing.
