Housing repairs - decoration and disturbance allowances
A new or existing tenant may be eligible for a decoration or disturbance allowance where the council need to carry out major repairs or improvement work to a property whilst the tenant is still living there.
The Council will provide a decoration allowance to tenants whose homes have been subject to improvement works/modernisation. This usually occurs where we have replaced windows, kitchens and/or heating systems and, as a result of the building works, re-decoration of part of your home may be necessary.
Information on the Council’s policy is contained in our section on housing repairs. We have prepared a detailed repairs policy, which sets out all repairs we are responsible for carrying out, including emergencies. A printed version is available at the Council offices in Berwick-upon-Tweed.
