Services for council tenants affected by demolition
Disturbance allowance
If it is necessary to demolish a Council property, the Council can pay a disturbance allowance in compensation for the disruption while the demolition work is taking place, and can assist with re-housing if necessary. Demolition is very rare in the Berwick borough.
If you are moving because the Council has plans to redevelop your home, you are able to claim certain expenses to help you.
Disturbance allowance is there to help you with your move, such as paying for removals. The Council may also be able to help with packing, or with paying for disconnection/reconnection of services (inc telephone).
