Social housing policy
The needs, resources, options and priorities for housing in the borough.
The Property and Housing Unit is responsible for all property maintenance and management functions. These services are funded from both the Council’s General Fund and the Housing Revenue Account (which funds council housing services). The Unit is responsible not only for providing day to day services relating to the council housing stock or the repair and maintenance of other council owned buildings, but also for a range of strategic based functions. This primarily involves developing forward plans for housing services across all tenures, whether council or private, including the assessment of future housing needs and demands of the Borough. These issues are summarised in the Council’s Housing Strategy which will be completed by September 2006. The Housing Strategy will cover and seek to address the large of issues in the Borough including:
- The ongoing need for affordable housing
- The condition of private sector housing and provision of grants
- The need for support related services
- Planning and development framework
- Working with external agencies
- Decent homes standard
- Empty homes strategy
- Use of all available resources
