Council Estates - Parking

The local authority is responsible for determining parking regulations (residents and visitor parking) on council property and for enforcement of those regulations.

The Council has a number of parking bays on its estates and adjacent to its houses.

In general terms tenants and those who live on Council estates in properties that have been purchased under the Right to Buy may use the parking bays freely.

It is, however, important to recognise that the parking bays are provided for the parking of vehicles which are currently in use.  They must not be used for vehicle repair, nor should vehicles that are not taxed nor MOT'd be left on the parking bays.  The Council does work with the Police to deal with cars which are untaxed, not MOT'd and uninsured.

The Council does not encourage the use of parking bays for the parking of caravans, boats, trailers, etc., but will tolerate this for brief periods of time provided it does not cause problems to neighbours.

Anybody anticipating longer use of the parking bays for anything other than a car or van should contact Simon Lord, Principal Housing Officer.

Parking bays are not sold under the Right to Buy to people who purchase their houses.  The parking bays remain in the sole ownership of Berwick-upon-Tweed Borough Council.
