Schemes identified in Local Plan. Town Centre Traffic Management Working Group previously identified part pedestrianisation of Marygate as a priority. This will complete the section between Golden Square and Scotsgate. Similar scheme in Castlegate has now been identified as the next priority. There is a need to continue looking to promote similar schemes in Golden Square, Bridge Street and the Old Bridge. These schemes sit within the overall town centre strategy seeking to improve the pedestrian environment, create new and improve existing links to public transport.
Ref: Local Plan Policy M35, 36, 37, 38, 40,41,42
Re-designating visitor routes via a more attractive route which reflects the character and quality of the destination.
Conservation Area Character Appraisals for Berwick, Tweedmouth & Spittal will shortly be available for consulting on (probably November/December 2006) Recommendations on enhancing public realm works will be included in the document. The Master Plan Exercise in Phase II will identify the need for intervention in public realm works i.e Crawfords Alley, Eastern Lane, Bridge Street Car Park & Quayside.
