The Making of St Cuthbert: A One Act Play
By Chris Green, with poems by Keith Armstrong
Are saints born or made? That is the question posed by this new play specially written for the Golden Age of Northumbria Festival. St Cuthbert is Northumbria’s best known and most admired saint. But why should this be? The show tells the story of the writing of the first almost-lost biography of Cuthbert, just what the role of the Venerable Bede was, and how The Lindisfarne Gospels come into the story. Using live action and video projection this lively play illuminates an old world of piety where some people’s motives were surprisingly modern.
