Licence - car boot sales
A car boot sale will require a street trading consent issued by the Borough council, if the public have free access to the site.
If you wish to request a street trading consent for this activity we can provide advice and the necessary forms – an example of which is below along with guidance notes.
If the event is to be held in a Borough Council Car Park permission must be obtained from the Transport and regulations Manager. If the event is to be held within a 3 mile radius of the town then additional permissions must be sought regarding the proximity to our Charter Market status. Details of who to contact are below.

STREET TRADING CONSENTS.
GUIDANCE NOTES
1. As from 1st June, 1984 all streets within the Borough are designated as consent streets in which street trading is prohibited without the consent of the Council.
2. Street trading is not permitted at any time in the streets listed below:-
Berwick
Castlegate (from its junction with High Greens to its junction with Marygate), Marygate, Walkergate, Church Street, Hide Hill, Woolmarket, Sandgate, Silver Street, Bridge Street, West Street, Eastern Lane, Golden Square.
Tweedmouth
Main Street (from Berwick Bridge to its junction with Etal Road)
Spittal
Main Street (from its junction with Billendean Road to its junction with Blenheim Place)
Holy Island
Front Street, Marygate, Market Square
Seahouses and North Sunderland
Main Street (from its junction with Southfield Avenue eastwards), Seafield Road (from its junction with main Street to its junction with St. Aidans)
Wooler
High Street, Market Place, Church Street, Peth Head
Belford
Market Place, High Street (from its junction with Nursery Lane to its junction with West Street)
3. Elsewhere in the Borough, no vehicle or stall from which street trading takes place may trade in one place or within 100 metres of that place for more than 15 minutes in any period of 2 hours, unless it is more than 50 metres from a dwelling and no such vehicle or stall may trade between the hours of 11.00 p.m. and 8.00 a.m.
4. Trading as a roundsman is not regarded as street trading for the purpose of the Act, provided that the roundsman is servicing resident customers. He may, therefore, trade in streets in which street trading is otherwise prohibited. However, if he trades with persons other than resident customers, he becomes a street trader for the purpose of the Act and must comply with the above provisions and hold a street trading consent.
5. Application forms must be submitted to the Chief Executive, Council Offices, Wallace Green, Berwick-upon-Tweed, TD15 1ED.
The application fee of £10 must accompany the application. Cheques should be payable to Berwick-upon-Tweed Borough Council and crossed, account payee only.
6. Consents to trade are renewable on 1st June each year
