Licence - street trading

A street trading consent (a licence) is required to trade as a roundsman (e.g. ice cream vans, hot food vehicles, mobile shops, flower stalls) and / or from a specific location on all streets in the Borough (except for those on which trading has been prohibited), and on all public and private land (with the consent of the land owner). A food businesses will also require permission from Environmental Health. A business supplying hot food and / or hot drink between 11pm and 5am the following morning will also require authorisation under the Licensing Act 2003 by way of a premises licence or a temporary event notice.

If you wish to undertake street trading you are required to obtain the necessary consent (licence). An application form is available below along with guidance notes.

You should note that additional permissions may be required from the land owner, Environmental Health or others before trading can commence. You may find it helpful to contact the licensing department when applying for this licence.

If the event is to be held in a Borough Council Car Park permission must be obtained from the Transport and regulations Manager. If the event is to be held within a 3 mile radius of the town then additional permissions must be sought regarding the proximity to our Charter Market status. Details of who to contact are below.
