Potholes

A pothole is where the surface of the road has been eroded and a hollow has formed. The Council, as Highway Authority, has responsibility for the maintenance and repair of the Highway.

The severity of the pothole and, therefore, the response it requires is based on the risk it poses to road users. This can be difficult to judge since all potholes present some risk. The factors to be taken into account include size and depth of pothole; traffic type, speed and volume; road alignment and visibility and also the position in relation to road width. Potholes can also appear on pavements/footways.

To report a pothole, please use our online form by following the link to the right of the page.

Alternatively, you can call our hotline on 0808 100 8 9 10

This service is provided by Northumberland County Council, you can visit the page dealing with potholes here, or their homepage here.
