Over 40 employees at Berwick-upon-Tweed Borough Council have recently undertaken training which will help them do their jobs better now and in the future unitary authority.

Thirty six members of staff have completed a NVQ Level 2 in Business Improvement Techniques and nine managers have undertaken the North East Excellence Manager’s course funded by the Improvement Partnership for North East Local Government.

As part of their NVQ training staff were able to make three improvements in terms of quality, cost and delivery making the organisation more efficient at delivering services for customers. Also as part of the manager’s training each participant has undertaken a project, using the techniques learnt, to make a difference in the way their team and service is managed.

Chief Executive Jane Pannell said:
“It is important that we ensure our staff continue to have the right skills to do their jobs and this means we need to provide them with as many opportunities as possible to train and develop. These two training schemes have provided excellent opportunities for staff to learn in a practical way so that both they and the organisation have benefited in some way. With the advent of the new unitary authority employees will also be able to use those skills in their new jobs.”
