Berwick-upon-Tweed Borough Council’s main reception in Wallace Green, Berwick-upon-Tweed will close this Friday, 8 August to enable work, to create a new Customer Services Point, to begin.

A temporary reception in the building next door will open as normal from 8.45am on Monday, 11 August. All the services usually available in the main reception including a cashiers service will be available. There will be external signs to redirect customers to the temporary reception.

During a four week period the main reception will be transformed into a new Customer Services Point which will enable customers to access more services through one visit, an e-mail or telephone call. There will also be a variety of other new facilities including a disabled access toilet and private interview rooms. It is estimated that the new facility will be open in September.

Council Leader Councillor Isabel Hunter said:
“We apologise in advance to our customers and visitors for any inconvenience this may cause. The work will be carried out over the shortest possible time and we will be able to provide all our normal services from the temporary reception.

“The new Customer Services Point will be one of the most modern facilities provided by any of the current councils in Northumberland. The works are part of the Council’s pledge to improve customer services but at the same time retain local jobs for local people when the new council for Northumberland takes over in April 2009,” she said.
