Berwick-upon-Tweed Borough Council’s Planning team are investigating the design of a recently renovated shop in Berwick to ensure that it is appropriate for a building based within the town centre conservation area.
The old More Store on Castlegate has been turned into new apartments, with a shop space on the ground floor.
Head of Development Services Chris Telford said:
“One of the conditions when planning approval was given was that written approval for the design of the front of the building should have been sought. We have not received any information and therefore our Planning Compliance Officer is investigating the matter.”
If the design is found to be not appropriate for the area the Planning Authority may pursue enforcement action to require the necessary changes to be made.
