Members of Berwick Town Committee at their last meeting (26.07.07) urgently asked Northumberland County Council to replace traffic signs missing from the top of Marygate.
Chair of the Town Committee, Councillor Jennifer Waterhouse said:
“Improvements were carried out at the top of Marygate by Northumberland County Council but the signs to the car parks have not yet been replaced.
“We’re very concerned that at the height of the tourist season this slip-up is causing congestion and problems with traffic at the centre of town. We have requested that Northumberland County Council replace these signs as soon as possible.
“We are also concerned that, despite assurances that no works would be carried out in the summer season, Northumberland County Council put up railings on the street corners at the busiest time of the year, causing congestion and chaos in the town centre.
“We are talking to the County Council urgently in the hope that these issues can be resolved before the main tourist season is over,” she said.
