The High Court has set the date for the taxi licensing judicial review. The decision was made by Mr Justice Silber that it will begin on 15 September 2008.
A joint request was made by Berwick-upon-Tweed Borough Council, Newcastle City Council, Berwick Borough Taxi Association and Blue Line Taxis (who have been joined in the proceeding as an interested party) for the hearing to brought forward. It had been estimated that the court would not hear the judicial review until April 2009.
The judicial review is of Berwick-upon-Tweed Borough Council’s interpretation of the law in relation to the licensing of hackney carriages that operate outside the Borough on a pre-booked basis only.
Berwick-upon-Tweed Borough Council remains of the opinion that it correctly interprets the law in connection with the licensing of hackney carriages.
