Don’t miss this year’s Border Marches!

The annual Border Marches will take place on Sunday, 28 September and there’s a walk to suit everyone.
There will be three traditional walks - 26 miles (42km) which will test the endurance of the most seasoned walker, 13 miles (26km) along the Tweed Valley and six miles (10km) taking in part of the Lowry trail.
There will also be a family stroll around some of Berwick’s most historic sites and walkers will be joined by a piper. Picnics can also be eaten at the Lowry Shelter.
All the walks start and finish on the grassed area opposite Berwick Barracks, Berwick-upon-Tweed where there will also be refreshments, a beer tent and entertainment throughout the day.
The walks start at the following times:
o 26 miles (42km) - 7am - 8am
o 13 miles (26km) - 9am - 10am
o Six miles (10km) - 12 noon - 1pm
o Family stroll - 2pm
Tourism Resources Officer Lorna Suthren said:
“Don’t miss out on this year’s Border Marches. All the walks take in some of the best scenery in Berwick and along the Tweed Valley. We’ll also be giving out lots of prizes including the best team, dog of the day, youngest walker and best turned out.”
You can register on the day for any of the walks. The fees are:
o £6 - adult
o £4 - child
o £18 - family (two adults plus two or more children)
o £2 - family stroll (register at 1.30pm)

If you fancy a warm up to this year’s Border Marches then a seven mile walk from Burnmouth along the Berwickshire coastal path into Berwick is taking place on Saturday, 27 September. A bus is leaving Wallace Green, Berwick-upon-Tweed at 10am but you must book a place in advance by calling 01289 301860. Dogs are not allowed but please bring with you a picnic lunch, waterproofs and appropriate walking shoes or trainers.
