All local B&Bs were required to become smoke free when the ban came into place on 1 July 2007.
Wendy Pattison, Smokefree Officer at Berwick-upon-Tweed Borough Council, has been visiting local B&Bs ensuring that they are complying with the new legislation.
Smokefree Officer Wendy Pattison said:
“Local B&Bs are required to ensure that their facilities are smoke free, however, designated bedrooms can be exempt if the owner has evidence in writing of the location of that bedroom.
“The view from local B&B owners is that the smoking ban has been positive. Bob and Irene Bellerby, who run Primrose Cottage B&B in Lowick, have welcomed the legislation. As non smokers themselves, they can now enjoy a completely smokefree home; and it creates an environment which can be enjoyed by their visitors,” she said.
If you are a local B&B or run any business which has public spaces and would like information on the new smokefree legislation please contact Wendy Pattison on 01289 330044 or e-mail wp@berwick-upon-tweed.gov.uk
