Berwick-upon-Tweed Borough Council’s licensing service features in a new national handbook designed to give councillors across the country examples of best practice in promoting licensing and solving problems.
LACORS (the Local Authority Co-ordinators of Regulatory Services) have issued the ‘Licensing Act 2003 Councillors Handbook’ to councils across the country as a training tool and information guide.
Berwick-upon-Tweed features in the supporting cultural enrichment section as a case study for promoting and encouraging schools, village halls and community buildings to become licensed; and therefore creating an even more diverse community resource in both remote rural and local town areas.
Senior Licensing Officer David Wilson said:
“We are delighted to feature in this handbook, which showcases some of the work we have undertaken in Berwick. We worked hard to ensure that local groups and committees understood how the Licensing Act 2003 affected them and what the benefits to the community could be. As of last year 87% of schools and community buildings in the area were licensed for a wide range of regulated entertainment.”
