Release date: 29.07.08
Ref: BBC/PR/CE/07/08

Berwick-upon-Tweed Borough Council is about to make some dramatic changes to its main reception area for customers.

The current reception in the main council building, Wallace Green, Berwick-upon-Tweed will be transformed into a new Customer Services Point which will enable customers to access more services through one visit, an e-mail or telephone call. There will also be a variety of other new facilities including a disabled access toilet and private interview rooms.

The main reception will close on Friday, 8 August and a temporary reception will open on Monday, 11 August in the building next door. There will be external signage to direct customers to the temporary location. It is estimated that the works will take about four weeks with the new Customer Services Point opening in September.

Council Leader, Councillor Isabel Hunter said:
“The works are part of the Council’s pledge to improve customer services but at the same time retain local jobs for local people when the new council for Northumberland takes over in April 2009. The new Customer Services Point will be one of the most modern facilities provided by any of the current councils in Northumberland.”
