Parking in Berwick-upon-Tweed

Annual and Half Yearly Car Park permits – non business use

 Questions and Answers

Q: I have two cars. Can I use the permit in either?

A: There is an option to purchase a permit displaying two registration numbers – it can only be used in one car at a time and there is a premium of £15

Q: My car is in for a service/repair

A: Any other car including a courtesy vehicle must have a Pay and Display ticket purchased while in a car park. Alternatively, consider a weekly permit (£9.00) if more than a couple of days.

Q: How long are Car Park permits valid for?

A: 1 st April to 30 th September or 31 st March next year. There are price reductions in July, October and January. We also have a weekly permit (valid for 7 consecutive days).

Q: My permit had fallen off the windscreen and I’ve received an Excess Charge notice.

A: There is an Appeal procedure if the Excess Charge was wrongly issued, however, the Council has a zero tolerance policy on non-display.

Q: I’m changing my car……

A: If you’re permanently changing your car, bring along the new details and the current permit, fill in the replacement form and we will re-issue it for the new car, free of charge. Please remember – if you can’t display a permit with the correct registration number, you will need to pay and display in car parks.

Q: I’ve lost my permit…..

A: Complete a replacement form and enclose payment of £15.00. We will validate that you had a permit and issue a replacement. Two points to note – you need to Pay and Display until the new permit can be displayed and we advise our staff that the old permit is no longer valid – if it turns up in use, it’s fraud – and we’ll issue an EC.

Q: I have a guest house/business and want to purchase permits for guest/visitor use.

A: You can apply to register as a business. If accepted, you can purchase permits with the business name displayed instead of the registration number. Please ask for an application pack from our Cash Office at Wallace Green.

Q: I’m in a short stay car park and I’ve a permit…

A: You also need to display the clock provided with the permit. Set it to show your arrival time. You’re not allowed to return to the same car park within one hour of departure.
