Land use - proposals

The local authority decides on the use to which local land can be put in accordance with their economic, planning and environmental strategies. Any proposals for change in use of land have to be approved by the local planning department

Berwick-upon-Tweed Borough Council is the statutory authority for the determination of all applications for planning permission. Not all development requires planning permission, and the Council is able to provide advice in this regard. Planning permission will normally be required when the proposed use of the land or building is different from the existing approved use. The definition of Land Use classes can be found on the website of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister.

  • Any application forms relating to the service

Planning application forms can be found on the Planning pages or directly from the Council’s Development Service Unit. The Council will also accept applications using forms found on the Planning Portal website. Applications can also be made on-line through the site.
