Planning:
Local Plan
The Local Plan is a legal document prepared under the Town & Country Planning Act 1990. Its purpose is to provide a clear local framework to guide and encourage development within the Borough. At the present time, only part of the Local Plan remains saved as we progress towards the Local Development Framework, the new planning policy framework for the Borough of Berwick upon Tweed.
The saved Local Plan Policies should be reviewed in conjunction with relevant National and Regional planning policy, as well as the emerging Regional Spatial Strategy for the North East of England and the emerging Core Strategy for the Borough of Berwick Upon Tweed, Emphasis and Momentum (available on the website also). These policies combined contain information regarding future use of land and buildings, the protection and enhancement of the natural and built environment and covers issues on recreations, traffic movement, roads and footpaths, and Services and facilities for the public. This framework of policies provides the basis upon which decisions on planning applications are taken.
Any person reviewing the Local Plan should always refer to the schedule of saved policies as prescribed in the Secretary of State Direction of September 2007.
Direction under Paragraph 1(3) of Schedule 8 to the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 - Policies contained in Berwick upon Tweed Local Plan 1999. Policies saved as of 27 September 2007.
