Council Tax:
Council Tax helps to pay for the essential services the Council provides - such as street cleansing, refuse collection, street lighting, education, social services and many others. It also pays for other vital services in the community like the police, fire, flood defence and the courts.
Your Council Tax is based on the band of your property and the number of adult residents. An adult – for the purposes of Council Tax – is anyone over 18 years of age. There is only one Council Tax bill per household.
Council Tax came into effect on 1st April 1993 and replaced the Poll Tax.

Council Tax Revaluation
Postponement of Council Tax Revaluation in England
Ministers have decided to postpone the council tax revaluation in England. The Government does not believe that a revaluation will occur during this Parliament.
Before embarking on a revaluation, the Government wishes to consider the wider functions of local government and its future role. It is extending both the scope and the length of the current, independent Inquiry into local government finance led by Sir Michael Lyons.
More information about the postponement of the council tax revaluation in England is available at www.odpm.gov.uk More information about the Lyons Inquiry into local government finance is available at www.lyons.org.uk
